Angela’s Story

 Before                                                                                        Angela - Now

   Angela Locke

   Age: 32

   Height: 5 ft 8 In

   Starting Weight: 231lbs

   Goal Weight: 165lbs

   Current Weight: 211lbs

   Weight Lost to date: 20lbs

   Time on plan: 14 weeks

Program: The Coach Approach   Weight Loss Program

Angela was embarrassed to ask for help and it took a couple of months before she realized she could not do it on her own. She finally admitted to herself that she was unhappy with her weight and decided to look for help. Angela came to see me in late October 2006 and wanted to lose weight as well as improve the quality of her diet.

Angela had never followed a diet plan so counting calories was a completely new experience for her. Angela’s main concern was dinner, as this tended to be local takeout or cheese sandwiches. Angela is allergic to Oatmeal and Chocolate but loves cheese, so I assured Angela that she did not need to totally give up cheese, just control the portion size. Angela decided to sign up for The Coach Approach Program, and I explained the requirements of the program which include keeping a food diary and sending me a copy of it each day. Angela was required to come and see me every week for a weigh in and a lesson on nutrition.

This is Angela’s weight loss story:

Week 1: 30 October 2006

Angela’s first weigh in is a week after signing up for The Coach Approach Program. She is delighted to see that she has lost 2lbs and it well on the way to reaching her goal. When I reviewed Angela’s food diary I noted that her carbohydrate intake was very low and she was feeling hungry especially in the late afternoon so I advised her to increase her intake of wholegrain foods to keep the hunger pangs at bay.

Week 2: 06 November 2006

Angela loses 4lbs for an overall loss of 6lbs and is absolutely thrilled with her progress. She reports feeling better about herself and is eating more than she did before (Just more of the right stuff!). She is delighted with her new guilt free eating lifestyle.

She had a bit of an insight during the week –In her own words:

I had a bit of an insight last night.  We were home a bit earlier as I have a call/class at 7:30 pm.   I was puttering, getting items ready for dinner in the kitchen when I went to the fridge as though I wanted to grab something to eat.  I shut the door and realized how silly as I was not hungry in the sense that I needed food asap, in fact it seems that I went merely out of habit.  In order to stay away from the fridge I busied myself with other things and then we prepared the dinner and I was fine afterwards.  I will be sure to pay attention to this sort of thing in the future so as not to deter away from the hard work!”

Week 3: 13 November 2006

Angela loses 2lbs more but is a little disappointed as she expected that she would have lost more. I explained that 2lbs is a substantial and healthy weigh loss in 7 days.

She is now spending more time planning her food in advance as she finds this really helps her to stay on track. This week’s lesson is on Protein and Angela is keenly interested as she does a lot of running and weight training and is wondering if she is getting enough protein. She works out her own protein requirements and endeavors to get in 75g protein each day to cater for her very active lifestyle.

Week 4: 20 November 2006

Angela loses 2lbs again and is jumping around with joy. Clothes that have not fitted for a year are now gliding over her curves. In her own words: “I am wearing a shirt that I have not been able to wear in almost a year today!   Maynard made the comment that he had not seen the shirt in a while and I said well I actually fit into it now!”

She reports that her energy levels are much higher than before and that she is almost never hungry anymore. She reiterates that being prepared is very important and laments that she didn’t get the shopping out of the way earlier in the week. In this weeks lesson we cover sodium intake and Angela is going to track her sodium intake for the next couple of weeks. She is surprised to find so much sodium in convenience foods such as prepared meals, snacks and other items.

Week 6: 04 December 2006

Angela shuffles into the office tired and sore but triumphant - She completed the 21km Standard Charted Marathon yesterday!! What a huge achievement. This is the third time Angela has completed a half marathon. Is she an inspiration or what? Next it was time to pop on the scales for her weekly weigh in. 2 more lbs lost for a total of 12lbs overall weight loss. Angela is delighted and more determined than ever. Check out how good Angela looks just 6 weeks after starting the Coach Approach Program.

Week 9: 08 Jan 2007

Its a week after Christmas and against all odds Angela has managed to lose 3 lbs over the Christmas Season. Though sick for the past few days, she is still delighted to be able to inform me that she has lost a full inch off her arms and thighs since she started her weight loss program. At a total weight loss of 16lbs Angela is looking & feeling great and ready to tackle the new year. Watch this slot next week to see how good Angela looks now.

Week 13: 05 Feb 2007

4 lbs lighter and nearing her first major goal, Angela is 19lbs lighter then when she started the program. She is celebrating by heading out for some new clothes for a weekend away in Sentosa.

Week 14: 14 Feb 2007

1 lb lighter and wearing a skirt she bought last year but never wore before because it didn't fit, Angela floats into the office and cannot believe that the skirt is even too big for her. Angela has lost a total of 20lbs to date and is determined to go all the way. Check out how great she looks at the top of this page. I bet she is going to have a great Valentines Night!
